Ssebo - Rethinking Design for the Real World
Hello friends,
We are Emile and Merlijn, two Industrial Design Engineering students at the Technical University in Delft. We are extremely excited to share with you our documentary project: "Ssebo." Our film aims to highlight the importance of industrial design in low-resource settings.
As industrial design students, we have seen firsthand how the industry tends to focus on developing products and services for developed markets and ends up discriminating against a huge part of the world's population. With our documentary, we want to showcase the innovative solutions and impact that appropriate design can have in low-resource settings by telling the stories of local designers, craftsmen, professors, architects, and many other interesting voices from Uganda.
We have already lived in Uganda for three months last summer to research and film part of the documentary. We have already come a long way, but now we need your support to bring this project to completion. Along with a filmer, we will be returning to Uganda in April to film the end of the documentary and to organise a local pre-screening event to record people's opinions and conclusions on the film. We also need additional funds for post-production, including color correction, audio engineering, and animations. Our goal is to raise €5000, and any contribution you can make will bring us closer to being able to share this story.
The premiere of the documentary will take place in both Delft and Antwerpen on the following dates:
Delft - Wednesday 14th of June
Antwerpen - Saterday 17th of June
In the meantime, have a look at our trailer!
Thank you for considering supporting our campaign, and we look forward to sharing the documentary with you. You can follow our journey on LinkedIn at https://www.linkedin.com/company/ssebo/
See you at the premiere event in June!
Best regards,
Merlijn Lewerissa and Emile Waterkeyn
